Final Verdict
Everton huffed and puffed against a Newcastle side that had gone unbeaten in eight games before tonight, but the Toffees won their fifth straight against the visitors.
The Blues dominated possession in the first half, creating plenty of half-chances but the quality in the final third was lacking throughout the game to make it count. It took a switch of wings between Theo Walcott and Yannick Bolasie to open the scoring after the interval, with the former Arsenal man finding a loose ball in the box to hammer into the roof of the net.
The Magpies ramped up the pressure in the last quarter of the game and it took a diving Seamus Coleman header deep into time added on to preserve the slim lead and get the three points.
