There was some thought that once PSV Eindhoven would have the Eredivisie title won that sporting director Marcel Brands would make an announcement that he would be leaving for Everton.

Well, PSV thrashed rivals Ajax Amsterdam 3-0 yesterday to go ten points clear with three games left to play, making them the champions, and Brands remained non-committal towards the interest from the Toffees.

Speaking to the media immediately after the game, he chose to focus on the responsibilities of his role without saying either way that he would be leaving or not [Football Primeur].

“All the scouts were here today, they had to experience it (the title win). But tomorrow we will start work on the squad for the 2018-19 season.

“Will I be there myself? I still have a contract, but there is a lot of interest, but it is very difficult for me to leave this beautiful (project).”

Brands has been at PSV for eight seasons, and the championship was his third in that time. The media buzz with the Everton news has been incessant in recent weeks [Football Primeur].

“It has played a lot in the media here lately, but much less in me. I thought this (championship) was more important, I did not let myself be distracted and I was busy with the club day and night.

“If I were to leave it would be a difficult decision, I have a lot of nice people around me, and I work with them in a fantastic way.”

The reports so far have been that Brands is going to be the centerpiece of Everton’s rebuild this summer, with the Mirror among others stating that a deal is already in place to bring the Dutchman over to replace Director of Football Steve Walsh.

Should the Brands deal fail to materialize, it’ll certainly come as a big blow for a majority of the fanbase who are absolutely fed up with how this season has gone. We’ll wait and see what Farhad Moshiri has up his sleeve.
