The future of Everton at left back is a complete mystery.

Leighton Baines, now healthy and with a real winger in front of him, has looked reinvigorated. The 33-year-old is no longer a part of the England set up and is certainly on the downside of his impressive career, but the man can still play.

At the same time, Antonee Robinson is going to push for playing time next season. The 20-year-old has been good enough with Bolton Wonderers to merit being included in the United States senior team this break. Perhaps he gets another year on loan, but he is making the case that he is ready now.

And then you have yet another link to Luke Shaw. Somehow, the former Southampton man is still just 22 years old and is rightly looking for first-team minutes somewhere, anywhere. He’s not getting them at Manchester United, and it could sink his international career if he stays.

Where do the Blues go from here? It’s not clear, but left back may be one of the most interesting positions for Everton heading into the summer. They need insurance at the fullback positions no matter what. Who they choose to start and who will backup remains to be seen.
