Everton have had three managers this season. A common thread through all three: the defense has been terrible. It makes no sense! Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce were all defenders during their playing careers, and yet it seems none of that ability has transferred to their coaching in 2017/18.
The only remaining possible addition to the backline is Ramiro Funes Mori. Oh boy! Funes Mori is a solid player. He’s got athleticism for days, and he is naturally left-footed. But he’s also a disaster waiting to happen and is not a clear upgrade over even Ashley Williams.
For some reason, I’m still excited to see him back in the team. Don’t take this from me. After this season from the underworld, I need to cling to any shred of hope that I can muster.
