Before Christmas, Everton Ladies crashed out of the quarterfinals of the Continental Cup on penalties against Reading.
Sunday, the Blues fought hard in an evenly matched game and got the three points against the Royals in the Women’s Super League. Despite the ice and hail, head coach Andy Spence still wore his signature shorts and saw his side win 2-1.
Striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk started the game off right with a beautiful breakaway and finish to score the first goal:

Not to be outdone, forward Chloe Kelly scored next to make it 2-0:
They're up for it today! @Chloe_Kelly98 punishes the @ReadingFCWomen defence with a pretty decent effort...

Coincidentally, both strikers have had interviews with Royal Blue Mersey in recent weeks and we totally credit that for their current hot streak!
Reading scored off of a corner kick to make it 2-1 (whatever):

The Everton Ladies are steadily progressing and went up a spot on the table to 8th place. The rest of the season will be tough considering the Blues will be up against the top four teams in the league: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
Elsewhere in the league, Liverpool Ladies lost 0-4 to Manchester City. Everton came close to beating Man City twice this season (2-3 and 1-2) so the Blues will surely look more impressive in the next derby.
Up the Toffees!
Woman of the Match:
Goalkeeper Lizzie Durack kept Everton in the game by denying four shots on target, including one by England international Fara Williams.
Lineup:
Everton (4-2-3-1): Lizzie Durack; Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Georgia Brougham, Gabby George, Siri Worm; Angharad James, Megan Finnigan; Chloe Kelly, Olivia Chance, Dan Turner; Courtney Sweetman-Kirk
Next up:
Everton’s next FA Cup game will be on Sunday, February 18th against Lewes and their next league game is February 23rd against Arsenal.
