There has been plenty of talk about the future of Everton striker Cenk Tosun since manager Marco Silva has chosen to go with Richarlison up front in recent weeks.

After youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin has gotten a look-in at the striker role in a couple of games, Tosun hit a new low yesterday when he was not even in the matchday squad for the win at Burnley. Calvert-Lewin started the last three games with Oumar Niasse selected among the eighteen players for the Clarets game, adding more fuel to rumours that Tosun could be returning to Turkey once the January transfer window starts in a few days.

However, during Silva’s press conference earlier today it was put to him if Tosun still had a future with the Blues, and the manager was quite adamant -

“Yes, why not?

“It’s not just Cenk Tosun who was out of the squad. James McCarthy as well, some more players too, not just Tosun. It’s part of my decisions for this match, I decided to go with Niasse. Let’s see what I do tomorrow and next games also.

“It’s not that if you miss one day or match and you are not on the squad list then then you have no future in our club. I can tell you again about Morgan Schneiderlin. We have 27.. 24 players and I can only put 18 in the squad list and I have to decide what is the best solution for each match.”

These will come as heartening words for the Turkish striker who hasn’t gotten too many minutes this season.
