Transfer offer made for Everton striker

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.. right?

Granted this is still the notoriously inconsistent Turkish media making these claims, but when so many different outlets are picking up on this story, are we to believe that there is something afoot?

Yet another newspaper (Takvim, this time) is claiming that Besiktas are going to make a move to get back Cenk Tosun in January. This is a pretty easy transfer rumour to make since the striker seems to have fallen out of favour with Everton manager Marco Silva, while the Turkish side are struggling, currently sitting at a lowly 8th place in the Turkish Super Lig.

Additionally, they will be losing Alvaro Negredo this summer and Wagner Love has already returned to Brazil, which leaves them pretty thin at the position too. Tosun is wildly popular back in his home country and Besiktas fans were quite unhappy to see the player leave last summer.

However, he is currently still the no. 2 striker in the pecking order at Everton and despite Silva’s insistence on using Richarlison as the centre forward, with the games coming thick and fast in December it’s quite likely that Tosun is about to get plenty of game time.

There is certainly a dearth of world-class strikers at the moment and it’s unlikely the Blues will find any help at the position in January, and certainly no one that will come in ready to start right away.

More to come on this rumour one feels, but it’s quite unlikely Everton are selling or loaning Tosun out in the winter transfer window.
