Everton at Chelsea: Writer Prediction League

The outcome should be obvious...right?

Everton sits at a bit of an interesting crossroad this week.

The Toffees have won four of their last five in the league, looking anywhere from pretty decent to downright good during that span. There are genuine reasons for optimism, right?

Well, the one loss in that span came at Manchester United and well...you know about this team’s record away to top-six clubs. If for some reason you’ve lived under a rock for the last decade, please allow the following to describe to you Everton’s away form against Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Liverpool this decade.

So, following a thorough 3-1 beating of Brighton and Hove Albion at Goodison Park last week, we want to be optimistic as the Toffees travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea this week — but it’s just so hard to be with this club.

Before we think any more about that though, let’s take a look at how last week’s predictions panned out.

Zach Tosun Richarlison Everton 3-0 3

It was a good week for everybody but me.

All our other writers got at least two points for picking Everton to win, while Calvin got an additional two for getting the score right as well.

Richarlison was both the opening goalscorer and Everton man of the match, which turned out nicely for several of our writers as well.

As you might expect with the high-scoring week we saw, there have been some big changes in our standings.

Calvin jumped into the lead after picking up five points this week, with the Brians closest to him atop the table.

Optimism served our writers well last week, but it’s in very short supply as Everton heads to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Take a look at our picks against Chelsea.

Not a single writer is predicting an Everton victory, with only three calling a draw.

The first goalscorer column is dominated by Chelsea players — not a single writer thinks Everton will score first!

Man of the match voting is pretty scattered, as is common in matches we expect Everton to lose. Jordan Pickford, Idrissa Gueye, and Andre Gomes are among the most popular choices.
