Gylfi Sigurdsson has hit a rich vein of form recently for Everton that has been recognized beyond the club. The Iceland international is one of the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Month for the month of September, and manager Marco Silva is thrilled for him as well.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference earlier today, Silva had a glowing commendation for his playmaker.
“Very very good. Believe me, it’s not just what he’s doing on the pitch.
“Of course in some games he’s performed really well, like our second half (against Fulham), in others not so well, like can happen with all the players, but he’s trying all the time.
“He’s a very very good example we have in our dressing room. Like a professional, not just his qualities as a player, he comes here every day to work hard, to improve.
“He’s a winner. He likes to win, he likes to work hard to achieve something important. He doesn’t wait for things to come to him, he likes to find the right moments to improve his football and his behaviour on the pitch as well. After that, the good things come to him.
“I told you, and told him too after the match (against Fulham) that the football had been fair with him. After he missed the penalty he kept working hard, kept trying to find the moments to help the team and after that he scored two very good goals.
“It was important to the team, it was important to him, and what he achieved in that game is because he’s working hard.”
Five other players have been nominated for the monthly award: Willy Boly of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Eden Hazard of Chelsea, Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal, James Maddison of Leicester City, and Raheem Sterling of Manchester City
