The League Cup has always been a bridge too far even for the great Everton squads of yore, and this season’s edition of the Toffees has now met the same early demise in the tournament.

On-loan Nikola Vlasic has been in excellent nick so far, and added another feather in his cap yesterday. His goal in the second minute of the Champions League game against the defending champions Real Madrid turned out to be the winner for CSKA Moscow. [RBM]

Vlasic continues to face questions about Everton and whether he will return to the Blues at the end of his loan spell. [FourFourTwo]

Two other loanees also got among the goals, with Mo Besic scoring for Middlesbrough and Yannick Bolasie notching for Aston Villa.
