Everton at Liverpool: Writer Prediction League

Traditionally, the third round FA Cup match is a chance for Premier League teams to rest key players after the insanity of the holiday period. Following three games in a week, clubs often face second, third, or fourth-tier opposition, a welcome break.

Everton gets no such break this week though, with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool to keep any hopes of 2017-18 silverware alive.

Before we dive into the predictions for that match though, let’s take a look at how we fared in our guesses from the matches over the holiday period.

Everton struggled over the holiday period, and as a result, we did as well. We largely predicted success against West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth, so the draw and loss in those matches torpedoed most of our chances at picking up points.

The realists among us picked up points from the result in the United match, with three writers even getting the 2-0 score correct.

No writers picked a single first goalscorer correctly for the entire period, and Jordan Pickford was voted Everton man of the match in each game.

Though the results were largely disappointing for the majority of us, one writer had a substantially better week than the rest.

Brian F. had an 11-point week, easily the best of the bunch. That success has propelled him back into the title race, though he’s still very much on the fringes.

This week, Everton’s FA Cup trip to Anfield looks to be a tough one, and our picks reflect that.

The easiest way to tell we aren’t confident — most of us have picked Jordan Pickford as our man of the match, an indication that we don’t think the outfield players will get much done!
