Among Everton’s many troubles, developing young talent is not one of them.
Central defensive midfielder Joe Williams has enjoyed an excellent season so far on loan at Barnsley in the Championship, and the Yorkshire club are seeking to make that move a permanent one.
Barnsley have made a bid to sign Everton midfielder Joe Williams on a permanent deal.
The Championship side have lodged an offer worth in the region of £1mllion for the 21-year-old.
Williams has impressed at Oakwell, playing 2,508 minutes this season, but he’s already 21 years old and this is his first spell out on loan. In terms of youth products already in the first team picture, Williams would have to come in and surpass both Tom Davies and Beni Baningime, to say nothing of the more senior players. It isn’t impossible, but it does seem a little unlikely.
There are numerous central midfielders rumored to join up with Everton this month, including Steven N’Zonzi who shares a position with Williams. It’s a long road to Goodison Park for the Liverpool-born kid, and a permanent move away could be the best solution for all sides.
