Other than the arrival of Cenk Tosun, it’s been a perplexing few weeks for Everton fans following the ups and downs of the transfer market. The Blues have either been linked with players they don’t need, or none at all.
That might be changing, though, as Sky Sports sources indicate Sam Allardyce and Steve Walsh are chasing LOSC Lille defender Adama Soumaoro.
Everton are considering a move for Lille defender Adama Soumaoro, according to Sky sources, as Sam Allardyce looks to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old centre-back is believed to be valued in the region of £18m by the French club, who are understood to be looking to sell players to help ease financial pressures.
The French defender is also being looked at by West Ham, Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund. Soumaoro is capable of playing any position along the back line, which the Toffees are in desperate need of as they seek to consolidate and push for a possible 7th place finish.
According to TransferMarkt.com, the 25 year old has played 67 career matches at center-back, 9 at right back, and 3 at left back. Soumaoro has scarcely seen the field this season at 630 minutes played, but that can be attributed in large part to missing 20 games with an achilles injury. The defender has no notable injury issues beyond that.
Even if Soumaoro joins, Everton may still need to bring in a more attacking fullback like Patrick van Aanholt or Ben Chilwell...unless Luke Garbutt makes a return from outcast islands.
What do you think - should Everton pony up for the Ligue One man from Lille?
