Everton’s on-loan midfielder Kieran Dowell had a good game against Chelsea despite his Nottingham Forest side eventually losing 5-1 in the Carabao Cup. Dowell clanged a free-kick off the crossbar, whizzed another couple of shots wide and even had a shout for a penalty not given when he was upended in the box.
Ironically enough, the Toffees will play Chelsea in the next round of the competition.
In Belgium, Henry Onyekuru continued his hot streak as he poached the only goal of the game to send Anderlecht through to the next round of the Croky Cup, beating Westerlo 1-0.

Elsewhere, Matthew Pennington didn’t feature but his Leeds United side beat Premier League team Burnley in the Carabao Cup on penalties, to book a spot in the last sixteen against Leicester City.
Antonee Robinson was helpless as his Bolton Wanderers side were beaten by West Ham United (!) 3-0, with the London side playing at Tottenham Hotspur next. Speaking of Spurs, Joe Williams put in a brave performance as midfield pivot as his Barnsley team narrowly lost 1-0 to Tottenham, also in the third round.
Neither Tyias Browning nor Brendan Galloway featured as they didnt have clearance to play for Sunderland against Everton last night as the Black Cats fell limply 3-0 at Goodison Park. The Wearside team are in a severe slump right now and will need to arrest the slide sooner than later.
