It is transfer deadline day for the FAWSL and Everton Ladies have snagged themselves a very dynamic striker! Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is a name we will hopefully hear a lot this season as she has a reputation for scoring goals. Lots of goals.
In 2015, she scored 20 goals in 20 games with her club the Doncaster Rovers Belles. It was during that season that Sweetman-Kirk scored a hat-trick against Everton as a second half sub, resulting in a 2-3 loss for the Ladies. She was the top WSL2 goalscorer again during last season’s Spring Series.
Coach Andy Spence is thrilled to have signed Sweetman-Kirk, especially given that she had many options -
“The fact that she’s chosen Everton is a real big marker of our ambition for the season ahead.”
The 26-year-old has represented England in the U-23’s and is looking to make it to the England senior level.
“Personally, I want to finish high on the goalscoring charts, and I am after international recognition too.”
Sweetman-Kirk is excited to join a team “with a lot of history in the women’s game.”
“There is a massive buzz around the team at the minute and Andy [Spence] has assured me the team isn’t here to make up the numbers and just fight to stay up. We want to have a real good go at WSL 1 and see how high we can finish.”
Her signature goal celebration with her former club was a salute to the crowd. Can’t wait to see what she has in store for Everton this season!
