There are two major sets of qualifiers going on over the first international break of the season - senior sides are involved in World Cup qualifiers while youngsters are having the European Under-21 championship qualifiers. Thirteen players have been called up, not including Jordan Pickford and Kieran Dowell.

Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane received England call-ups to play Malta on Friday before hosting Slovakia on Monday. Pickford was later sent back to Everton for treatment of a thigh injury sustained on Sunday.

Wayne Rooney announced his retirement from international football last week despite being in line for a call up.

Ashley Williams will captain Wales for the games against Austria (Saturday) and in Moldova (Tuesday). Gethin Jones from the Blues Under-23 squad is on standby for the two Wales games.

James McCarthy was in the provisional squad for the Republic of Ireland before being dropped after failing to recover from the knock to his knee.

Gylfi Sigurdsson will play for Iceland in their games at Finland on Saturday and then against Ukraine on Tuesday.

Kevin Mirallas left early to join up with Belgium for the Thursday game against Gibraltar and Sunday’s trip to Greece.

Maarten Stekelenburg is in the Netherlands squad that plays in France on Thursday and then against Bulgaria on Sunday.

Idrissa Gueye joined up with Senegal for the home-and-away against Burkina Faso, starting on Saturday at home and then away on Tuesday.
