Inter Milan closely monitoring Everton defender

Following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee late last season, Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has kept his head down and worked on his recovery during this offseason.

With the addition of Michael Keane earlier this week, there was some talk that Funes Mori could become expendable. Earlier last season, the Argentine had been quite vocal about looking for playing time elsewhere, especially with the World Cup coming up, when captain Phil Jagielka regained some consistency and the Blues trotted out him out in the backline with Ashley Williams.

Now Italian transfer maven Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Inter Milan are closely monitoring Funes Mori’s recovery from his operation with a view to adding him to their lineup. Their concern stems from the fact that their own centrehalf Jeison Murillo has had a knee injury in his past and Inter want to tread very carefully.

This rumour does seem to be a bit tenuous, considering Everton hold Funes Mori in pretty high regard and he will be jockeying for position with Jagielka as first back up to the backline, and likely the one who will get the nod to start should Koeman switch to a back three any time. Now if the Toffees were to go out and add another centerback, like say Mauricio Lemos, then we could certainly see Funes Mori being allowed to leave.

For Inter, they have four recognized players in that position themselves, so playing time will not necessarily come any easier for the Argentine. Considering the nerazzuri didn’t even qualify for the Europa League, there won’t even be enough games to go around especially after they just signed Milan Skriniar from Sampdoria. Inter also have Andrea Ranocchia back from his loan at Hull City, and Luciano Spalletti is a fan of the player too. Murillo and Miranda round off their four central defensive corps.
