David Unsworth’s Under-23 Everton side might have walked away with the Premier League 2 title last season, but any notion that they would rest on their laurels has been put aside.
While the Toffees spending at the senior level has garnered most of the headlines, the investment in youth has been equally impressive, and Friday it got even stronger.
On Friday, Everton announced that 19 year-old German youth international Anton Donkor has rejoined Everton for the 2017-2018 campaign.

You may remember Donkor as he initially joined the Toffees on loan from Wolfsburg in January of this year, only to see an injury cut his time in Blue extremely short.
In his short time with the club, however, Donkor was obviously impressed enough to know he is in the best place to move his career forward. Speaking to evertonfc.com, he said -
“I’m very happy to be back. I’m looking forward to pre-season to show my teammates and the fans that it was the right decision for the Club to re-sign me. I’m very proud to be here and I want to show my best performances.
“I started very well here last season but the ankle injury was a big disappointment. I was out for about eight weeks and I had to go back to Germany and do all my treatment. But I got fit again quickly and now I’m feeling better than before. I’m feeling at 100 per cent.”
Donkor is a strong, physical forward who will see Unsworth’s attacking designs as perfectly suited for him. Possessing great speed and the dribbling ability to beat players, the teenager will hope to turn his youth stint into an eventual call up to the Senior side, and he knows Unsworth is the man to get him back into shape after coming off an ankle injury that prevented him from showing off his array of skills for the Toffees staff.
“After six weeks I hadn’t played football, but I was very happy to be back out on the pitch. David Unsworth is a great guy and I enjoy training with him. He has a good style of coaching.”
Everton have already signed defender Nathangelo Markelo and forward Boris Mathis for Unsworth’s side this summer.
