Romelu Lukaku has been at Everton for four full seasons, and in that time he’s had plenty of great moments where he has thrilled Evertonians and football fans in general with his goalscoring abilities.
Selections of this nature tend to be very subjective, with the most recent highlights often making it to the top as they are freshest in the memory. We’ve got our top five moments here, along with a bonus three that didn’t quite make the cut.
What did we miss out here? What moments defined Lukaku’s time at Everton the best for you?
So in no particular order, here are the three honourable mentions -
6th April 2014 - Everton 3-0 Arsenal
Probably one of the games we’ve seen Everton play under Roberto Martinez, who pulled the brilliant masterstroke of playing Lukaku out wide-ish on the right, and the Belgian proceeded to shred the Gunners to bits.
27th December 2016 - Leicester City 0-2 Everton
Lukaku put the icing on the cake by hammering home on the counter, but the most impressive part of this goal is how he manhandles Foxes’ captain Wes Morgan.
21st September 2013 - West Ham United 2-3 Everton
While Leighton Baines scored two amazing freekicks in this game, Lukaku stole the show with a late header that knocked him out for a few seconds, but also got him his first Everton goal. It also started a ridiculous goalscoring run against the Hammers.
And now, once again in no specific order, here are the top five moments -
12th March 2016 - Everton 2-0 Chelsea
The forward put his former club to the sword in the FA Cup Sixth Round fixture, scoring twice and making his Chelsea fans really regret ever selling him.
12th September 2016 - Sunderland 0-3 Everton
In a season that would end in relegation, new Everton goalie Jordan Pickford was badly let down by the Black Cats defence as Lukaku plundered a hat trick in just eleven second half minutes.
23rd November 2013 - Everton 3-3 Liverpool
In a six-goal thriller for a Merseyside Derby, Lukaku scored a late brace that looked to have given an Everton a famous win before a later equalizer tied it for Liverpool.
4th February 2017 - Everton 6-3 AFC Bournemouth
What a cracker of a game this was, with the goals flying in fast and furious. The main highlight though was Lukaku plundering four goals to put the game out of the Cherries’ reach.
15th October 2016 - Manchester City 1-1 Everton
Everton sat back and ate up a lot of the pressure that Pep Guardiola’s side put on them at the Etihad, but when they finally broke, Lukaku embarrassed Gael Clichy to give the Blues the lead.
We leave you with this compilation video of 81 of his 87 goals, scored until March of 2017.
