Everton suffer setback in search for playmaking help

Where to turn now?

Given that Everton recently had their latest bid for Swansea City man Gylfi Sigurdsson rejected, it only makes sense that the club and their fans would turn their eyes elsewhere for a new playmaker.

One of the most mentioned targets has been Las Palmas midfielder Jonathan Viera, who possesses a sparkling record in terms of creating scoring opportunities for his teammates.

However, Viera’s club president has spoken, and it isn’t good news. The rough English translation is as follows:

Neither Jonathan Viera is for sale nor do we want to sell it. If someone came with the clause money, we would still try to persuade Viera to stay.

As much as Everton would do well to abandon the Gylfi Sigurdsson chase, that does not necessarily mean other targets would come any easier. Viera is but one rumor. While a good fit, the Spaniard is by no means the only option for Ronald Koeman and Steve Walsh to pursue.

As the rumor mill continues to churn, there’s one thing we know - Everton are not done signing players.
