At this point in the summer transfer window, the main Everton storyline has been Gylfi Sigurdsson. However, that’s followed closely by the question of who, exactly, the Icelander might be serving up crosses and through balls to.
Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace) and Edin Dzeko (Roma) have both been mentioned, but the main character in the striker tale has been Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.
The 30 year old Frenchman has seemingly been the preferred option of Ronald Koeman, and definitely the preferred option of the fans.
West Ham dropped out of contention in order to sign Javier Hernandez, while Giroud himself has been hesitant to move back to Ligue One, specifically Marseille. Everton’s main rival for the player has been Borussia Dortmund, who were said to be in pole position to sign Giroud in the event that Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was sold.
Until now:
Sky in Germany reporting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is going to stay at Borussia Dortmund. They say Dortmund don't want to sell

With Dortmund’s superstar striker remaining in the fold for the upcoming season, it appears that Everton are the only remaining suitor for Olivier Giroud.
Much like Sandro Ramirez before him, Giroud fits the profile of what Koeman wants in his attack. A target man is need regardless of whether or not the Sigurdsson deal gets over the line. Make the call, Ronald - it’s time to sign Olivier.
