Everton are ready to double Gylfi Sigurdsson’s wages as they look to wrap up a deal with Swansea this week, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report claims Everton will offer Sigurdsson in the region of £150,000 a week, putting him level with the returning Wayne Rooney.

Rooney took a significant paycut to return to Goodison Park this month but is still one of Everton’s top earners.

Now it seems the Toffees are ready to offer Sigurdsson a similar deal in order to lure him from south Wales.

Everton had hoped to complete a deal for the 27-year-old before jetting off to the Netherlands for a week long pre-season tour today.

That now looks impossible with Swansea holding firm in their £50m valuation of the midfielder.

Everton and Leicester have already reportedly had bids in the region of £40m turned down by the Swans, who insist they will not be bullied into selling their star player on the cheap.

Sigurdsson didn’t fly out to America with the rest of the Swansea squad last week because he “didn’t feel in the right frame of mind” given the transfer speculation surrounding him.

Reports since suggest Sigurdsson is keen on a move to Goodison Park but any transfer is going to cost the club big money.

It appears likely that Everton will have to break their transfer record once again to land the former Tottenham man. Throw in his wages and it may well be one of the most expensive transfers completed all summer.
