Everton bid for young Bundesliga defender

Ronald Koeman and Everton have needed at least one more defender for some time, and with the news that Ramiro Funes Mori aggravated his knee injury, that pursuit returns to the forefront.

French outlet RMC Sport reports that St. Etienne tabled a bid for FC Ingolstadt defender Marcel Tisserand, but that the Ligue One side faces competition from Everton. The Blues allegedly submitted a 3 million euro offer for the 24 year old.

Prior to moving to the Bundesliga, Tisserand spent time at Monaco and Toulouse in France. Capable of playing center back and fullback, his versatility would be appealing to Ronald Koeman.

A Congolese international, Tisserand may be intrigued by the possibility of linking up with countryman Yannick Bolasie.

Tisserand didn’t score this season, but contributed a very solid 2389 minutes played to the German side, which saw him average 3.3 aerial duels won per 90 minutes. At 6’3”, the defender would be another menacing target for the Blues on set pieces.

Between Tisserand and Ajax’s Jairo Riedewald, the type of defensive cover that Koeman is after is clear. Strong, physical, and capable of deputising in multiple positions.

It may take more than the rumored amount to pry Tisserand out of Ingolstadt, but could Steve Walsh have unearthed another potential gem?
