Everton's pursuit of the Swansea City playmaker is threatening to become one for the ages

Gylfi Sigurdsson is in his second spell at Swansea City, having returned there after an ultimately fruitless spell at Tottenham Hotspur. His importance to the Swans cannot be understated, with the club likely getting relegated without the Icelander's contributions.

Everton's pursuit of the player started in last summer's transfer window, and continued through the January window and has really picked up pace this summer. However, Swansea have remained resolutely steadfast in their insistence that they won't sell the player for any less than £50 million, which is an extraordinary amount of money for a playmaker whose strongest suit is the dead ball.

However, value is in the eye of the beholder as we have discovered this offseason more so than before, and what Ronald Koeman, Steve Walsh and Farhad Moshiri want, they have been getting.
