With Everton’s pre-season kicking off in just a few days, it was only a matter of time before the 2017-18 squad numbers were revealed.

It’s an exciting time for fans, because ordering a new kit for the upcoming campaign is now safe to proceed with. Fancy a Rooney 10, perhaps?

Here are the numbers for the new additions, as well as some notable changes for pre- existing players.

Incoming Players

Jordan Pickford - #1

The Blues spent a pretty penny on their new keeper, and he gets the number to show for it. Joel Robles has occupied the number since 2012.

Michael Keane - #4

Vacated by Darron Gibson last January, this number suits a first team center back. Prior to Gibson, the 4 was worn by Joseph Yobo from 2005-2011.

Sandro Ramirez - #9

Last held by Arouna Kone, Blues fans can only hope that Sandro will be a more fitting recipient of the legendary number. Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Campbell are two notable recipients in days gone by.

Wayne Rooney - #10

Some supporters (including myself) wanted Rooney to take his old #18 back, but this will do just fine. He succeeds Romelu Lukaku in the shirt.

Davy Klaassen - #20

Klaassen wore the 10 at Ajax by virtue of being their best player and lead creative force, but at Everton the matter was not so simple. Rooney would always have his choice.

Klaassen takes over the shirt from the departed Bryan Oviedo. Notable former wearers of the 20 include Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar.

Notable Changes

Yannick Bolasie - #14 to #7

Gerard Deulofeu is off to Barcelona, and so “Yala” takes over a number more befitting an electric winger. Let’s hope we see it on the pitch soon.

Joel Robles - #1 to #33

Uh...well...see ya, Joel.

Oumar Niasse - #34

Wait, what? Will the forgotten man get a chance this season?

Perhaps the biggest news to take away from today’s announcement is that U23 Player of the Season Jonjoe Kenny is nowhere to be found. Given Seamus Coleman’s injury and Mason Holgate’s ill-suitedness for the right back role, it was widely assumed that Kenny would be in contention to start on the right side of the defence this season.

Here’s the complete list (26 players) of this season’s squad numbers, from the Everton website -
