Everton have been chasing defenders in the transfer market since Ronald Koeman stepped foot inside USM Finch Farm. Ashley Williams arrived when the season began, and the Blues have, at various points, been linked with Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Mateo Musacchio, Mauricio Lemos, Cuco Martina, Kieran Trippier, and several others.
Until now, however, cover for Leighton Baines has not seemed to be a priority. That said, with Luke Garbutt consistently injured or in exile and Brendan Galloway out of favor, it’s probably past time that Everton seek out a new left sided defender.
Enter Chelsea’s Abdul Rahman Baba. Just 22 years old, the Ghanaian international was purchased from Augsburg by Chelsea last season. This year, he was on loan at Schalke, where he played 14 times prior to tearing his ACL at the African Cup of Nations.
A report from Ghana earlier today indicated that Everton are interested in the player, but any deal could be contingent upon his recovery from injury.
Ghana defender Baba Rahman's proposed move to English Premier League side Everton on loan from rivals Chelsea is hanging in a balance because of his protracted injury problems.
The Toffees have asked about signing the left-back from the Blues but an extended date for his recovery from a knee injury has left the deal teetering in the brink of collapse.
Everton were supposed to face a tough fight for the Ghanaian as he was poised to go back on loan at German side Schalke.
When he was on the field this season, Rahman played quite well. Known for his attacking, Baba can play in a wide midfield area, too.

Given the severity of his injury, there’s no doubt that the acquisition would be a risk for Everton. Rahman, though, remains a promising player, is available on loan, and plays a position of need. What’s not to like?
