Accrington Stanley announce Everton friendly

The last time Everton played against League Two side Accrington Stanley, it was Roberto Martinez’s first match in charge of the Blues on English soil in what turned out to be a pretty good season. Former Blue James Beattie was in charge of the hosts and the Toffees were convincing 4-1 winners, with Darron Gibson (!), Victor Anichebe, Kevin Mirallas and Leon Osman getting the goals.

A couple of days ago Accrington Stanley announced on their website that Everton would be visiting the Wham Stadium on Saturday July 15th, which poses an interesting conundrum since the Toffees might not even be in England on that date.

The Blues take on Gor Mahia in East Africa on Thursday the 13th, and then are scheduled to be in Holland to play Twente on the 19th. Unless Ronald Koeman wants to get his side used to playing every 3-4 days early on in summer, it’s likely that the youth team and other backups will feature in this game.
