Another day, another forward linked with Everton and Goodison Park. With Romelu Lukaku basically camped out at Stamford Bridge, the rumors are flying fast and furious.

The latest report, out of London and the West London Sport, states that the Blues are keeping tabs on star Brentford forward Jota, a 25 year old Spaniard who has also spent time at Eibar and Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Valued at around £8 million, Jota bagged 12 goals and 5 assists in just 21 appearances for his London club this season after returning from a shortened loan spell at Eibar.

On the one hand, this kind of signing makes sense for Ronald Koeman. Everton need more goals from more players, and that’s clearly an area in which Jota excels. The Blues also need players who are capable of playing out wide, and Jota ticks that box, too.

However, it’s concerning that at 25 years old the Spaniard has yet to find his footing in a bigger league, and it’s unlikely he has much improving left to do. As the radar above tells us, Jota gets dispossessed too often and isn’t an especially proficient dribbler, and those are both qualities unlikely to get better with age.

The short version is this: Jota is the type of depth signing Everton need to make this summer. What he’s not, however, is the specific player who can aid the club at home and abroad next season.
