The Premier League season enters its final month. Everton have just three fixtures remaining and they will want to get maximum points in order to put pressure on sixth-place Arsenal, who they play in the campaign finale on May 21.
This week’s test is 18th-place Swansea City. The Swans are two points from safety with winnable games against Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion to follow Saturday’s match. Three points against the Toffees would be huge for their Premier League future, a draw would suffice, but a loss could be detrimental.
Everton are trying to find the net for the first time since April 15 as they have been shut out by West Ham United and Chelsea in back-to-back matches. That is something that really shouldn’t happen to a Romelu Lukaku-led front line. Luckily, Swansea has the worst defense in the English top flight, having allowed 69 goals in 35 matches, which works out to about two goals allowed per game.
Regardless of the scoreline, this will give Everton supporters and decision-makers an up-close and personal look at 27-year-old midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who may be the only reason that Swansea haven’t already been relegated. The Icelander has been coveted by the Blues since last summer and may be ready for a move to a bigger club following this tough Premier League season.
