Is Ross Barkley really worth £50m?

With just a few days left for Ross Barkley to decide whether he will stay at Everton or be sold by Ronald Koeman, The Telegraph are reporting that the club have placed a £50m price tag on the player. Despite there being just a year left on his current contract and it being widely reported that he has refused to sign a new deal, the Toffees are not backing down on their demands for what they will sell him for.

While we remain ardent supporters of the player and would love to see him stay at Everton, if any club is foolish enough to pay that sum of money for the young Englishman, who are we to questionthe famous saying that a fool and his money are soon parted and the Blues will gladly take the money, like they did with John Stones.

The article went on to claim that Tottenham were reputed to be first in line for his signature. With their packed midfield, quite where and when Barkley would get a game remains to be seen.

Barkley could choose to see out the last year of his contract at the Blues and Everton could technically bench him to spite the player, but with the World Cup coming up next summer, that would be a great folly.
