European nights are here again, and will be upon us sooner than you think. Arsenal’s win today has ensured that Everton cannot climb higher or lower than their current seventh position in the Premier League, and therefore is now locked in for England’s last spot in the Europa League.

The Premier League is scheduled to start on the weekend of 12th August and the Toffees will already know what their European fate is before that start date.

Everton will enter the competition at the Third Qualifying Round stage. The draw is scheduled to be held on July 14th, with the first leg games set for 27th July and the return leg on 3rd August.

Should the Blues come through that round of qualifiers, the draw for that playoff round will be made on 4th August. The 29 winners from the third qualifying round will be joined by 15 losers from the Champions League third qualifying round in a two-legged playoff round to be held on the 17th and 24th of August.

48 teams will make it into the pot for the twelve groups to be drawn from on 25th August that will make up the meat of the competition, the group stages.

  • 12 domestic cup winners from associations 1–12
  • 1 domestic league fourth-placed team from association 4
  • 3 domestic league fifth-placed teams from associations 1–3
  • 22 winners from play-off round
  • 10 losers from Champions League play-off round

With potentially eight games to be played in a matter of six weeks to start the season, it will be imperative that Everton get their transfer business done early and pre-season training completed without any injury issues or other hiccups.
