It was a bit disappointing to see Everton nab only one total point from matches against Liverpool and Manchester United last week. The United result, especially, was frustrating as the team was just moments from taking home all three points. Alas, that is football. Now, the Blues return home, where they have dominated all season long, but the squad will be stretched to it’s absolute limit against a Leicester City side that may be the hottest in the Premier League.
The Foxes, once relegation fodder earlier in the season, now find themselves comfortably in 11th place in the league and into the quarterfinals of the Champions League. They have won six consecutive matches across all competitions, including an impressive 3-1 triumph over Liverpool in February. However, the club has the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday this week, so there may be an inclination to rest a player or two in preparation for that match, giving Everton the advantage of playing against a less-than-full-strength Leicester side.
The Toffees need all the help they can get at this point. The squad remains strong overall, but it is getting increasingly thin, especially at the back. With the injuries to Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori and the suspension of Ashley Williams, Ronald Koeman may have to get creative in his game planning.
