Everton are unbeaten in the Premier League since mid-December. However, the only team they have faced in that span with a talent level on par with Tottenham was Manchester City at home. Granted, the Toffees stomped the Cityzens that day, but Spurs have always proved to be a troublesome side for the boys in Blue. Make no mistake, this is going to a struggle for points.
These two clubs have not met since August 13 at Goodison Park, where goals from Ross Barkley and Erik Lamela led to a 1-1 draw. Now both sides are battling for European competition next year. Spurs, sitting in second of the Premier League, are quite comfortable, but top four is no guarantee and they still have an outside chance at winning the league if they really start to tear it up. Everton, on the other hand, needs every point they can get in order to climb into the top six and guarantee themselves a Europa League spot outright.
Spurs are just so solid all around. The 50 goals they have scored are only the fifth-most in the top tier of English football. At the same time, they have conceded a league-low 18. So, while stopping them may be hard, breaking the back line down is even more difficult.
If the Blues are set for three points, or even a draw, at White Hart Lane today, they will need Romelu Lukaku to be on fire with Ross Barkley, Tom Davies and crew creating chances. Meanwhile, Harry Kane, who has three hat tricks in his last nine games, needs to be held in check. Certainly, that is easier said than done.
