There was a time not long ago when many of the transfer rumors surrounding Everton Football Club were regarding a new starting goalkeeper to replace the sketchy tandem of Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles.
However, Joel has gone on to enjoy an above average campaign in the Blues’ net, and the position is no longer one of top importance to Ronald Koeman and company.
Stekelenburg, though, is not likely to extend his playing career much longer, while Mateusz Hewelt does not seem to have a future beyond Everton’s youth side. With that in mind, the Toffees are being linked to a potential backup for Robles in the form of Milwall’s Tom King.
King, still just 22, is Milwall’s nominal number 2, but got a surprise start in the FA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. He started the match on fire, but as our lead photo here indicates, did not exactly cover himself in glory later on. The Englishman has only made 11 appearances behind Jordan Archer this season, conceding 14 goals. Indeed, his profile is so low that Transfermarkt doesn’t even assign a market value.
It’s a bit of a bizarre report, to say the least, but emblematic of a bigger story - it’s very plausible that Everton will bring in support for their Spanish starter this summer. Stay tuned.
