Referee Paul Tierney will be in charge on Saturday at Goodison Park as Everton host Hull City. This will be only the third time Tierney has officiated an Everton game.
In his two previous games, the Toffees drew away 1-1 at West Ham United in the Premier League in November 2015, with Ramiro Funes Mori and James McCarthy receiving bookings and Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal, and the other was a 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in early 2016 in an FA Cup 3rd Round matchup.
Tierney has handed out 20 yellow cards in 7 Premier League matches this season, with 38 yellows and 2 reds in 8 Championship games. The ref is yet to show a single red card in his Premier League career of 12 games over three seasons.
He recently came under the spotlight in Manchester City’s FA Cup win over Huddersfield, when he correctly waved off two penalty claims for handball, and awarded one for a clear shirt-pull in the area.
