Kevin Mirallas pounced on the rebound to open the scoring for Everton in the 39th minute. Ross Barkley, who has looked lively all afternoon, fired in a shot from the edge of the box, and Ben Foster sprawled to make the initial save.

No one reacted to the rebound quicker than Mirallas though, and he chipped the ball in over the scrambling Foster to put Everton ahead.

Just a few minutes later, Romelu Lukaku held up the ball well and played Morgan Schneiderlin in on the right, and the midfielder chipped home neatly to score his first Everton goal.

The Blues had dominated the possession and the chances in the first half and will feel their lead was well-deserved.
