Despite his unheralded purchase in the January transfer window, youngster Ademola Lookman has taken Everton by storm and is well on his way to making himself an indispensable member of the squad.
The 19-year-old forward came in from Charlton Athletic and was widely-expected to play for David Unsworth in the Under-23 side. However, during his signing Ronald Koeman mentioned that Lookman would be part of the senior team and eyebrows were raised by the fans.
It might only be a handful of games so far, but Lookman has looked very sharp and deserving of his spot in the Premier League team. He even got a goal against Manchester City within minutes of making his debut!
In fact, Koeman had said a couple of times that he was in line for a full start, and he got it against Bournemouth. While he wasn’t able to cap it off with a goal, he looked very lively and gave the midfield an outlet with his quick running as the Toffees dominated the first half.
Look at this nifty little move he pulled off on Saturday against the Cherries.

Between this and Barkley’s little celebration even before he scored, it’s pretty clear that Koeman’s charges are surging, and their confidence is sky high despite the ‘tough love’ he has been showing them.
And the fans have been showering him with praise too. Both January signings, Lookman and Morgan Schneiderlin, have been impressive so far and despite the Blues not picking up any more players, their additions have strengthened the team tremendously.
After the weekend game, Lookman spoke to evertontv -
“It’s been brilliant to come to a club like Everton with the supporters here and how much history the Club has is unbelievable.
“The Evertonians have been brilliant since the first minute I walked in the door here. They’ve supported me so well and thinking back to when I scored my first goal, the support was just crazy. I haven’t had anything like it before and I’m just glad they’ve taken to me.
“The players here are quality and I’m just happy to be part of that and to be able to contribute to the team. I already feel like I’m improving every single day. I’m learning a lot from the manager, players and coaches here.
“It was good to get my first start and to win 6-3 was fantastic. I found out the day before, prepared myself and I’m just so pleased with the result.
“I think I did alright. I lost the ball a few times and I was at fault for their second goal so it’s something I’ll look back on and try to rectify.”

Lookman has also been developing a great relationship with star striker Romelu Lukaku, who has taken the kid under his wing.
“It was a brilliant start and finish, right into the top corner.
“He’s so clinical, he just scores goals for fun and he’s a great player to play with.
“I can learn a lot off him. His finishing is unbelievable and I want to get to that level, too.”
So far the teenager is off to a great start, and fans will be looking forward to seeing his continued development as a Blue.
