In a game where both sides had some very good chances to score, it was the goalkeepers that prevailed as Everton and Middlesbrough fought to a 0-0 standstill under some poor weather conditions.

The rain poured down at the Riverside for this fixture, and only seemed to get heavier as the game went on, effectively reducing the value of the game as a spectacle. Both teams are tied fourth-best in goals allowed in the Premier League, and this game showed that off to full effect.

Romelu Lukaku and Ademola Lookman had the best chances for the Blues, while Rudy Gestede and Ben Gibson came closest for the hosts. If you haven’t already, go rate the Everton player performances here.

Everton lost ground on Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of them, who both won on the day. West Bromwich Albion, four points behind the Blues when play started, salvaged a late draw as well to maintain that gap.
