Everton will be without midfield enforcer Idrissa Gueye for the trip to West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day after he picked up a hamstring injury in the previous match against Chelsea. No return date has been proposed for the Senegalese midfielder as we wait for a diagnosis on his injury.

Wayne Rooney missed Saturday’s game with flu symptoms, but is expected back for today’s game. Ashley Williams and Mason Holgate both dropped to the bench for that game suffering from similar conditions. In their absence Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane did admirably with Sam Allardyce expressing his surprise that the club captain played the full ninety minutes and he could drop to the bench today.

Yannick Bolasie made the bench for the last game but was unable to get on after Gueye’s injury, and he could make his return to the pitch today too.

For new manager Alan Pardew, midfielder and record signing Nacer Chadli will be out again after aggravating a thigh condition on his return to the game over the weekend. Winger Matt Phillips is back in training and could be in the squad today while James Morrison remains out with an Achilles ailment.
