Final Verdict
Newcastle started the game the stronger side, and created plenty of good chances as they penned Everton back. The Toon hit the post twice and had a couple of shots blocked or saved as well, but it was the Blues who took the lead when Aaron Lennon rose highest to head a Dominic Calvert-Lewin cross towards the goal, with the goalie making an absolute mess of it, and Wayne Rooney reacted first to pop the ball home.
The hosts had more chances to begin the second half as Everton continued to ride their luck. The Toffees looked better as the game wore on and Newcastle tired, but both sides missed some decent chances. Everton in the end did enough to hang on for a lucky win in the end against a poor Newcastle side.
