Yeovil Town and Everton both had something to prove in this game, considering they were the two teams newly brought up into the WSL 1 league this season.

The Blue Girls never lost sight of their plan to get their first league win and fought hard the whole game.

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk’s goal came in the first half from a Faye Bryson assist. Yeovil Town argued that it was offside but it looks to be a great play. Check it out for yourself:

Sweetman-Kirk is our Player of the Match due to her influence over the game. She drew a foul in the penalty area in the second half, setting up Chloe Kelly’s penalty kick, which she converted to make the final score 2-0:

Not a bad celebration from Kelly! The forward on loan from Arsenal Women has surely impressed as she is the leading goalscorer for Everton with 3 so far this season.

Goalkeeper Lizzie Durack, who played between the sticks for Harvard University, kept a clean sheet.

Game Stats:

  • Possession: Everton 52%, Yeovil Town 48%
  • Shots: Everton 10, Yeovil Town 4
  • Shots on Target: Everton 4, Yeovil Town 2

Next up, Everton play Oxford United Women on Thursday in the Continental Cup, where they have shown good form with two wins and one loss so far.
