Seamus Coleman speaks out about Man United rumours

The Deadline Day madness has begun

We all know that deadline day is as much about the rumour and speculation than it is about actual transfers.

If the gossip was to be believed Andriy Yarmolenko and Juan Riquelme would still be waiting in a County Road chippy ready to sign for the Toffees.

An early rumour swirling around the Twittersphere today was a proposed bid from Man United for Seamus Coleman.

United have long been linked with a move for the full back, who supported the club as a child back in Ireland.

The bookies even slashed the odds on Coleman moving to Old Trafford to as low as 1/3.

However, the 28-year-old has moved quickly to play down the reports, insisting he is merely focused on Wednesday’s trip to Stoke.

Coleman said:

“It is that time of year. I haven’t heard about the story. I am preparing for a game on Wednesday and that is all I am concentrating on.”

Ronald Koeman is unlikely to sanction any deals to sell key first-team players so this rumour always had a whiff of desperation about it.

The Toffees have no financial need to sell players and so are only likely to let fringe squad members go between now and 11pm.
