Referee Craig Pawson will officiate Everton’s trip away to Stoke City on Wednesday. It will be his second game in charge of the Toffees after the trip away to Southampton which was manager Ronald Koeman’s first match back at the Saints. Ashley Williams and Romelu Lukaku were booked late in that game.

Koeman had previously leapt to Pawson’s defence last season when Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had gotten into a shouting match with him when he was acting as a fourth official. It is no surprise that Wenger is currently serving a four-game suspension for abusing a match official.

The referee was also in charge for Southampton’s visit last season in the last days of Roberto Martinez’s tenure at Goodison Park when an irate fan ran onto the pitch to try and confront the Spaniard.

Pawson has officiated 15 Premier League games this term, handing out 62 yellow card and 2 red cards in that time.
