Championship side Newcastle United have made contact with Everton over taking midfielder Tom Cleverley on loan for the rest of the season.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle is reporting that the Magpies are now waiting to hear back from the Blues regarding the former Manchester United player.

Cleverley hasn’t had much chance to play for Ronald Koeman, and has been underwhelming when he has made it to the pitch. With the rise of youngster Tom Davies, that has pushed Cleverley even further down the pecking order. The 13-time England international has only started four games for the Blues this season.

Squad depth is an issue for Everton and Koeman will be in no hurry to let any players go until he has had a chance to bolster the ranks, with moves for Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay expected, and youngster Ademola Lookman also likely on the way. The Blues have also been linked with Thomas Delaney.
