Everton manager Ronald Koeman has challenged ‘diamond’ Ross Barkley to overcome his England snub by playing even better than ever for Everton. The Three Lions manager Sam Allardyce left Barkley out of the squad for the last international break amidst howls of protest from Blues.
When Koeman was asked today about the player being ignored by Allardyce, here is what he had to say -
“Yeah okay, let’s talk about Everton, because international duty is now behind us.
“What he needs to do is to play good football, to show his qualities, and to show ‘Big Sam’ every weekend that he needs to select the player, and that is the best answer for the player himself.”
In all honesty, it’s nothing that Everton fans haven’t been saying for some time now. Barkley has showed a tendency to disappear at times, though when he does flash his memorable skills, the inconsistency often gets forgotten.
One can only imagine that the youngster from Wavertree will be using the drop from the national squad as added motivation to work harder and get better to stake his claim without opposition for a starting spot for his country.
