The bubble has burst and all the initial euphoria that surrounded Everton’s good start to the season has begun to dissipate.

For the second consecutive game Everton looked poor, unable to create chances or stem the tide in midfield. The players looked tired and incapable of carrying out the deep press that manager Ronald Koeman craves, and as a result, the five-man Bournemouth midfield had their way with the Blues side yesterday.

Unlike the midweek Norwich City game where the Blues also failed to score in, yesterday they were clearly the second-best side on the park. Bournemouth controlled possession with ease, and had more shots as well.

Koeman’s coaching credentials will receive an early season test as he attempts to get his team out of the funk they have currently slipped into, especially since they still have some very winnable games coming up on the horizon.
