There’s a line in the Everton fans’ song for winger Gerard Deulofeu that goes “He’s magic, you know...”
Well, Deulofeu has heard it, and wants the fans to know that their support is magical to him and the rest of the players.
Speaking to evertontv after Everton’s 3-0 romp at Sunderland on Monday Night Football, he said -
“These Toffees are amazing! Two or three thousand on a Monday night, it’s incredible. This is the only country where you will see this.
“To the Toffees, thanks for the support and keep going because this year is a big year.
“The fans are magic - better than me!”
Deulofeu’s appearance in the second half sparked Everton, who had looked dull in the opening period. The headlines were grabbed by Romelu Lukaku and his 11-minuite hattrick, and Deulofeu was not surprised -
“For me, he is one of the best strikers because if he has confidence, he is amazing. I have a good partnership with him and I hope this year I can assist a lot for Rom.
“The most important thing is to score but I need to offer assists for Rom and the strikers because they live for scoring goals.”
Using Deulofeu as an impact sub rather than starting with him seems to give the player a different dimension -
"We played better in the second half because we read the game better,” he continued. “When we scored the first goal, the game was done. After we had possession, played well and this is the way for Everton.
“I enjoyed it a lot in the second half. Everton needs to play like that, with possession of the ball, creating space between the lines."
