Aiden McGeady off to Preston North End

Winger’s Everton misery at an end

Barnsley v Everton: Pre-Season Friendly

Updated 9:46 pm BST:

The deal is a season-long loan, as confirmed by Everton

-—-———-——

Aiden McGeady can finally get some playing time as he attempts to resuscitate his playing career. Breaking news from multiple media sources has him transferring to Preston North End in the Championship.

The winger has been with Everton since 2014, scoring 1 goal in 32 appearances, before getting shipped out to Sheffield Wednesday on loan this previous season where he also scored once in 13 games.

Despite being a Republic of Ireland international, McGeady had struggled to get a regular spot in the lineup under former manager Roberto Martinez, and that has gotten even worse under new manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman has brought in winger Yannick Bolasie to add to the rotation with Kevin Mirallas, Gerard Deulofeu and Aaron Lennon, with the Irishman not getting a look-in beyond a couple of meaningless games during the preseason.

Terms of the deal have not been announced as yet, but we’ll update this post once we we have them. McGeady will become the Lilywhites third signing of deadline day, having picked up Marnick Vermijl and Alex Baptiste in the last hour.
