Regardless of the last minute headlines it looks like James McCarthy will not be leaving before the deadline today. It had been reported earlier today that several teams had new offers ready for the Republic of Ireland international, but even with values of £20 million being suggested it looks like Everton will pass on them.
There were talks coming out today suggesting a loan to Celtic or a sale to Crystal Palace could be possible, but that appears not to be the case. It’s also possible that offers for McCarthy have been lowered due to the injury and Everton refuse to sell at a discount.
Former Everton manager David Moyes has been trying to get the player to Sunderland as well, but that appears to have fallen through as well as the Blues have stood firm.
Either way a move out for McCarthy does not appear to be likely unless someone comes in with a ridiculous offer in the very near future. Until Everton can secure some new replacements it’s unlikely anyone will be headed out excluding Oumar Niasse and other players not likely to even see the bench like Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady. That said there is very little time left and without a last second flurry it looks like Everton will be staying pat.
