For a few days it had seemed that Yacine Brahimi was all set to be signed by Everton. But now at the time of asking as the clock ticks down to the transfer deadline, Porto have balked and rejected the Blues’ £34 million (€40 million) offer.

Multiple media sources are reporting that the Portuguese club are now looking for at least £42.5 million (€50million) which would make him the most expensive signing in Everton’s history by a country mile.

The issue with the inflated transfer fee comes from the winger’s ownership situation. Porto own 50% of the player's "economic rights" and despite Everton including a 20% sell-on fee for the player, the club wants more for the Algerian player.

The Toffee’s Director of Football Steve Walsh had first noticed Brahimi when he was at Leicester City, and has been tracking him since then. Click here for more background on the player.
